Many of us are going through “care-giving”, but right now I’m thinking about Lindia.

Chattanooga Central Class of 1965

Received the following update from Treva Schlosshan:

Please have everyone remember Bill & Lindia in their prayers.  I spoke to Lindia & it seems Bill has been in the hospital recently.  He was given only 24 hours to live at that time, but 2 weeks later was back home with hospice care.  He is very weak & sleeping a lot, but still able to talk to Lindia.  Fred took him a gift by the house Christmas Eve, but he was asleep at that time, so he did not get to visit with him.  Lindia called me later & said that she thought he was just trying to make it through Christmas.  It will not be long before the Lord calls him home & Lindia gave me permission to have everyone updated.  This has to be so difficult for them & prayers will be appreciated.

After 43 years as a band director, Ron Meers is retiring.  A reception was held in his honor.  It is evident that he has influenced many, many lives!  The band hall will be named in his honor, “The Ronald S. Meers Band Hall.”

Mr. Meers served as Director of Bands at Riverdale High School from 1982 to 2012.

During his 30-year tenure, he served as Director of Bands,

taught band at McFadden and Rockvale schools, and served as Senior Class Sponsor.

Bands under his direction consistently received Superior Ratings and traveled to locations

across the United States and to the Bahamas and Canada.

He was selected as Riverdale High School’s Teacher of the Year for the 2002-2003 school year

and was inducted into the Tennessee Music Education Associations Hale of Fame on April 17, 2011.

In addition to his responsibilities at Riverdale,

Mr. Meers served the Music Education Profession in a variety of capacities, including the following:

President of the Tennessee Music Education Association,

President of the Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association,

President of the Tennessee Bandmaster’s Association,

President of Phi Beta Mu,

Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association Auditions Chair,

Governor’s School for Arts Auditions Chair,

and Tennessee All-State Band Chair.

Additionally Mr. Meers served as an adjudicator for both concert and marching bands

throughout his 43-year career.

Above all, Mr. Meers has spent his career helping students develop musicianship,

learn leadership skills, and foster a desire for excellence in all endeavors.

He as truly lived the Riverdale Band Motto, “To make the good better and the better best!”
